The Fucking Rats (a poem)
I love my pets, I really do! You know how sometimes pets do things that end up in a giant mess that has to be cleaned up? Like when a dog chews up shoes, or how cats release hairballs. Well, rats also like to chew and have the tendency to knock things over (plants, water cups, delicate objects).
That was the inspiration for this poem! The fuckin rats had killed another one of my plants!!! UNBELIEVABLE. So, I wrote a poem about the best and worst qualities of each rat that was alive at the time.
Asiago passed shortly after I wrote this poem <3 Lola and Lita are still alive and well!
The poem is also part of my larger zine “selected poems 2022-2024”. However, the mini zine includes exclusive photos.
